As lawyers, we hold sensitive information about our clients, their finances and their property. We owe you a professional duty of confidentiality, and we take the security of your information seriously. Lenders and other businesses also trust us with information about their own customers, and we protect it the same way.
Our security measures
- Access controls that limit information to the people who need it.
- Multi-factor authentication, encryption and password protections on our systems and devices.
- Secure offices and secure document destruction.
- Staff training on privacy, confidentiality and cyber security.
Where your information is kept
Your client file is held in our practice management system, LEAP, which hosts our data in Australia. We use InfoTrack, an Australian provider, for property searches and identity verification. Some software features and some providers of our website, email and analytics services may process limited information outside Australia. Our privacy policy explains this in more detail.
Keeping payments safe
Payment redirection fraud is the biggest risk in property and finance matters. Our bank details are provided in your engagement letter, and we will never change them by email or text message. Before you send money to anyone, use your bank’s payee verification service to check the account name matches, and call us on (02) 4611 7092 if anything looks different. See our scams and fraud page for more.
If something goes wrong
If we suspect a data breach, we’ll act quickly to contain it and assess the risk. If a breach is likely to result in serious harm to anyone affected, we’ll notify those people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Help us keep your information safe
- Use a secure email account with a strong password and multi-factor authentication turned on.
- Don’t send identity documents or bank details in reply to a message you weren’t expecting.
- Tell us straight away if you think your email account or devices have been compromised during your matter.
If you have a security question, or you’d like to report a concern, email contact@hindsightlegal.com.au.
